Manila is one of the oldest and largest metropolises in Southeast Asia and is the political and economic center of the Philippines. Nowhere else in the Philippines can you acquire a greater dose of local color, a better understanding of the country’s multi-faceted culture, or get as many glimpses of its contrasts as in this pulsating, vibrant capital.
Intramuros, also known as the “Walled City,” is the only district in Manila that has been successful in retaining a part of the old Spanish-era influences. A visit to Intramuros is not complete without seeing Fort Santiago, San Agustin Church & Museum and the Manila Cathedral.
After experiencing old Manila, pass by the Luneta Park where the Rizal monument is found, one of the country’s principal landmarks. It was built to commemorate the Philippines’ foremost national hero, Jose Rizal. Then, it is “shop ‘til you drop” at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA), a shopping mall located near the bay. |
